Want to Help? Looking for Survivor Stories

I am writing a book of survivor stories from the World Trade Center & Pentagon attacks of September 11th. Some of the proceeds will go to the various organizations involved in the rescue and clean-up efforts, with the bulk to be given to the victims' families. This will also hopefully become an important catalog of events from the perspective of those who miraculously survived them that will help our children and future generations better understand this unique historical day.

If you would like to help in this effort, please forward this to your family and friends and/or email me your complete story (and photos if you wish - but photos that focus on the gift of life: we NEED more positive images after this long, harrowing week) at elkid2@visto.com.

If you know of someone who is missing, please make sure their pets are being cared for. There are dogs and cats waiting by the door for their owners to return.

I just want to say that I am scared and I pray our Country comes through stronger than ever. I have had nightmares every night about terrorists coming into our homes and lives, and I pray this never happens, that we can stop what has started...

Hermanos Americanos:

I work on John Street and what my eyes have seen has finally registered in my brain. I cannot conceivably image what families are feeling at this momemt - 4 days later and not knowing if their loved ones are still alive. Should they not survive I can only pray that those loved ones are found and those families can have closure. I do not know if I will be able to continue to work downtown - but I do have faith that justice will be served. As far as new towers being built - I am not sure how I feel - At this moment I feel that a memorial park should be built in the "Memory of the Innocent"
My Prayers will never cease.

HERMANOS Y CIUDADANOS AMERICANOS

COMO CRISTIANA REPUDIO EL ATAQUE QUE COMETIERON UNAS PERSONAS QUE NO TIENEN AMOR EN SU CORAZON. LES PIDO A DIOS QUE SE ARREPIENTAN DE HABER CAUSADO TANTO SUFRIMIENTO Y DOLOR Y SE ENTREGUEN. NOS SOLIDARIDAMOS CON TODOS LOS CUIDADANOS AMERICANOS QUE SUFREN. JESUS NOS ACOMPAÑA Y NOS CARGA EN SUS BRAZOS CUANDO NOS SENTIMOS DESFALLECER.

"A Message to All Americans"
September 15, 2000

"The message that follows this one is from all of us at the Spirit of Ma'at. We hope that perhaps the ideas it expresses can help to empower us in this moment of darkness.

But first — now that four days have slowly slipped by — my soul would like to speak to you, if you wish to listen, about something I see as a core issue in all that is happening.

We Americans have been watching life go by as though it were a surrealist movie. On TV, we see the flames of wars and watch them burn — Israel and Palestine, NATO, Kosiva, Iraq, Iran, India and Pakistan, Columbia and the drug guerrillas, North and South Korea, Russia, Chechnya, Ireland, England. We see the incredible pain. But it doesn't affect us directly. We have become numb to the violence. Numbness appears to be our only way of dealing with the tragedies of life. We feel very little in our hearts and bodies. In fact, most of us are barely in our bodies. We exist mostly in our minds and in the images.

It is all so removed.

And within our own society are ills that weaken us in our own eyes and in those of the world, and again, we are numb. We do not feel in our hearts the pain of the children who are raped, tortured, and made to serve the perpetrators of child pornography. We are numb to child abuse and people abuse, murder and violence on our streets and in our homes. We accept divorce as the natural order of things.

We witness the suffering of the world's people, the ravages of hunger and starvation. We face horrible diseases that threaten all life. And even more devastating, we see our Mother Earth herself dying, in her final gasps for life. CNN brings all of this to our eyes in massive doses, and we let it all into our living rooms, watching our little boxes, playing in our fantasy world, eating and drinking our fine foods and wines.

How could we allow ourselves to feel the true pain of it all? To feel such pain could almost kill us. So we don't feel it. It never happens to us.

What now? The pain is here. Not just at our doorstep, but here, within our homeland. What do we do now?

Whatever we do, I doubt if we will continue in the old way.

In the past, we have reacted to conflict with emotional violence of our own. In families, this almost always leads to pain and divorce. In the world, in this case, it leads to war. Real war, that will surely be fought worldwide, but this time, most likely, also in our own neighborhoods.

Supporting this war is one of our options.

But there is another option. It begins by first understanding why this is happening to us. I say this because I don't believe that we do understand. We really are too far removed from life.

I think we must learn to feel the pain that is worldwide. When we see a child burning in India or a little baby dying of starvation in Africa or bombs dropping on beautiful villages snuggled in the countryside, as a nation our hearts could respond as One. We could change this world by our love instead of our violence.

So I say that when we can understand and feel the pain of our distant brothers and sisters, then perhaps we will have the wisdom to know what to do about this horrible tragedy we have all just experienced as a nation.

The world can come together and say, "No more terrorism." We can let go of all terrorism, even our own, and find a way to make peace real. This seems to me to be the only answer. We create our world by our lives. We can create a world without terrorism if we wish and focus upon that.

But we do have to wish and focus upon a peaceful world — not stare at the TV in a coma. We have to come alive and do things that will make a difference.

The unity that we are all feeling now is a place of strength that could be the catalyst that alters the world in such a way that terrorism is a distant memory. Or it could become the energy that drives a lynch mob into chaos and perpetuates the pain and war, with the real possibility that this course could bring an end to civilization as we know it. It is our choice.

In a marriage — which is much like what we have now, since we cannot leave the Earth — the object is not to kill the other person, even if the other person may be making our lives uncomfortable or even painful. If we decide to solve our problems with murder, we are no different from those we consider evil. Finding a way where both people — both sides of any conflict — can live together and love and respect one another is probably the only response that will save the Earth.

For World War Three will almost surely take away the life of our Mother.

But before we can respond in a healthy manner, we first must feel, we must care, or there is nothing. We need to get out of our Lazyboys, stand up, and change our world into a planet of peace.

Through prayer and inner peace, and then through taking the kinds of action that come from a peaceful heart, we can change this world. I have great faith in us and in America. I believe with my whole heart that we will find the right way.

In love and service,

Drunvalo"

Tv radio newspapers and the internet are all giving the terrorists ecxactly what they want. Attention. Phrases such as worst ever , most killed , devasted , paralyzed etc. just adds to their rejoicing and celebration. We should stop the continous sensationalism about the event and move on to lift up our heroes and voluteers. That is what can turn this around..don't give them the satisfaction....Mourn and grieve with all the dignity and honor you can muster. Show the world the spirit of the America that our founders fought and died for. Harden your resolve for the time being, because to cause us fear and doubt are their goals because they know they will never be able to tear down the freedom we have fought and died for. This is and always will be the greastest nation and in a larger scope this airstrike is but a flea on a hounds butt. Whereas the smallest retaliation on their pathetic little world will go down in history. So Americans ...show the world not a face of fear and sadness but one of strength and determination. Go forward , create and live life to the fullest. In other words BE AMERICAN!!

Terror's Tragedy
The people must stick together and there's not a storm that we can't weather. Cause we are the strong and we are the brave and we won't give up 'til we're in our graves. Cause when we put our faith in God, no one can stop us and no act of terror will ever stop us. And we as a people will overcome and we'll make it through to the other side. And all of the victims in New York's tragedy, we'll see you again in paradise. I know there's no greather pain than when you lose the ones you love. And when you put your trust in God, you'll get your revenge. but whatever you do, don't lose your loving heart. So let's come together, everybody in this world as one. Cause there's only one God, one creation, one humanity. And we'll all get through New York's tragedy together cause New York's tragedy is a tragedy for the world.

No, there's only one HUMANITY. Why can't we start looking after each other, instead of hiding behind gods, nationalism, economics and ignorance?
People are people the world over, we are capable of extreme good and extreme evil and everything in between. We also have a choice.

If we could start with the ignorance and the economics, the rest would probably no longer matter.

Sorry if this offends.
Exasperated and been online too long!

First and foremost i want to send my heart to all thoese families that are going through a very rough time. I want to let you all know that we are with you and together we will make this pain ease. it makes me really angry to know that this is real. i have not lost a loved one and i hope that i never do. to all thoese people who have lost a loved one i can only say these words that nspire me evrytime i read them and i hope thay inspire you too:

-There are times in life when you miss some people so much you want wish you could take them out of your dreams and wrap them up in a hug.
-dream what you want to dream: go where you want to go: be what you want to be because you only have one life and one chance to be what you most desire.
-have enough happiness that makes you loving, enough stumbles to make you strong, have enough sadness to make you human and have enough hope to make you happy. Always put yourself in other people's place. if you feel pain they probbably do too.
-Happiness exists for thoese who cry, thoese who are/were hurt, thoese who have searched, thoese who have fallen; because only they can really appreciate thoese who have touched their lives.
-Life begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and ends with a tear.
-The wonderful future will be based on a forgoten past; you can't go on with your life unless you let go of the times you failed and the pain in your heart.
-When we were born we were crying and evryone around us was smiling.
-Lets live our life in a way that when we die it is us the one smiling and evryone around crying

I am 16 years old and all i want to be is a singer i have big dreams and such events like the one on tuesday are the things that make me love and live life even more i hope my words have touched you and god bless.
