If I can make a rather distasteful analogy....

But first, a caveat: Personally, I have never
been the victim of a rape or attempted rape. I
have, however, spoken intimately with people
who have.

The attack that we, as Americans, experienced
on Tuesday, has much in common with a
rape. We were caught unaware, on territory
that we naturally assumed to be safe. We had
our innocence stripped away from us in the
most horrific way imaginable. Afterwards, we
felt shocked, scared, angry, and powerless.
Our anger had (and still has) no clear outlet.
We (at least partially) blamed ourselves, for
being lax in our personal security. Over and
over again, we ask ourselves, what could we
have done to prevent this? We foster hatred
and resentment in our hearts for those who
did this.

When it is all over, if we are lucky, the healing
process eventually begins. It is then that we
have a choice to make... To continue to hate,
to continue to live in fear, to strike out at those
around us; or to move on with our lives, to try
to salvage some strength, some semblance
of normalcy in what's left of our lives.

Just as some victims of rape let hate fester
and grow within their hearts, never being able
to trust another person, never being able to
get close to anyone ever again...many of us
find ourselves giving in to hate. Some women
who have been victims of rape grow to hate
and distrust ALL men, merely because it was
a man who brought this violence against
them. There are still others who would cheer
them on and tell her those feelings are
justified.

Should we then foster hate towards all
Muslims, all Arabs, all darker-skinned people,
because of the actions of a few
obviously-deranged individuals? Clearly, not
all MEN are rapists. Logic would clearly dictate
then, that not all MUSLIMS are terrorists.
Those who would have us engage in acts of
violence based purely on a person's race or
country of origin are sadly misguided in their
pursuit of "justice."

Like it or not, the ACTUAL perpetrators of
these crimes are already beyond any form of
human justice. They were vaporized on
impact. While we can still seek to punish
those who helped and supported them, that
kind of operation is one in which the surgeon
must strike with the precision of a scalpel,
NOT the brute force of a chain saw. (Whoa,
hold on to your hats, folks! He's mixing his
metaphors!)

I firmly believe that, sadly, SOME kind of
response is required. To act rashly, without
discretion, however, is to invite disaster. It
would be, quite literally, like cutting off the
head of the proverbial hydra. Two more would
spring up in it's place. As one of the most
powerful nations in the world, we have a
reponsibility, to ourselves, and to the world, to
respond not only with bravado, but with
intelligence and discretion.

I am asking for the status of Grace Williams. She lived on Okinawa all of her life and was transferred to work at the Pentagon. If anyone knows if she is safe it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not the type of person who typically condones any kind of killing. In fact, what a lot of people on this page are hoping for is genocide, plain and simple. But, if the attacks were in fact planned by a fanatical Islamic faction, then that changes everything.. there is absolutely no way to "negotiate" with religious fanatics. This stuff goes back to the crusades. Fundamentalist Islam seeks to "punish" all those who do not share the same belief system. Nothing that change that. Therefore, I believe the only real way to solve this problem is Survival Of The Fittest. In other words, kill them before they kill us. •••• happens. Deal with it.
