i think that because of the recent shootings that have been happening in the last few months that gun control laws should be stronger

this hasn't just affected the schools and cities in which the shooting have occurred; the entire nation is in mourning

I think we should also have stronger gun control laws my heck jsut today there was a six year old involved in a school shooting in michigan I really think it is stupid that these crimnals can get away with all of this IT IS SO STUPID yes I realize that our constitunial rights states right to bear arms parents should lock up thier guns so the kids cannot get to them and when they are brought in the first time for a problem judges don't just slap their hands throw the book at them maybe IT WILL TEACH THEM A LESSON MY HECK WHEN YOU JUST SLAP THEIR HANDS THEY SAY I CAN GET AWAY WITH MURDER AND THEY WILL STILL SLAP MY HANDS MAYBE IF YOU THREW THE BOOK AT THEM AT THE FIRST OFFENSE THEN I THINK WE WILL HAVE ALOT LESS JUVNILE DELIQUENTS THIS IS SO STUPID I AM TRULY SORRY FOR THOSE WHO LOST SOMEONE IN THE SHOOTINGS BUT AMERICA NEEDS TO STEP UP GUN CONTROL LAWS THEN THE ONLY ONES WITH GUNS WILL BE THE CRIMNALS AND THE POLICE!!!!!!!!!!

Let me get this straight John doe/ you would like more laws? we need more laws? you feel only the police and crimnals should have guns? well my freind you are so wrong,first of all im truly sorry for the victims very very sorry for them and their familys.I AM FROM MICHIGAN and ill bet you that this gun was stolen by someone who already has been thru our court system. if this is true the unseen crimnal here are the judges and lawerys that allow this to happen.they is no reason to make new laws against the 2nd amendment.gun control issuses will do nothing but prevent you from defending your family and freinds when the time comes.as much as i hate to admit it, this country is not imunne from civil unrest as this past week has shown, with hate crimes from all walks of life you my freind need to relize this and prepare yourself GUN CONTROL will do nothing but prevent you and your family from defending yourself i agree all weapons should be locked and stored out of the reach of our children but i dont feel we need more laws telling me to do so. 1st being: school shootings (very very tragic disaters)
2nd being: 2nd amend of the constition of the united states (also very tragic to try to change it)

as a 'response' to some 'stimuli'. Most of the time these stimuli: genetics; home environments; learning abilities and quality of education contribute adversly to 'responses' . . . When we pay more attention to the stimuli, we may begin to see 'cause - as well as affect'. It is much to elementary to throw millions of dollars at School Safety Programs - Until we mandate parental paticipation - as we do school attendance - there is little chance that things will improve . . . Those who respond with violence will simply do it somewhere outside of school . . .

NO AMOUNT OF GUN LAWS WILL WORK WE NEED GOD BACK IN OUR SCHOOLS.

It is a bunch of crap of kids and other people can go in to a public school and just start to shoot every one in there path.....these kind of people must not have a soul or a heart.....this don't just affect the school system it affects the whole nation.....

America is in trouble. All these people are claiming it's their contitutional right to bear arms. Well it's also our right to be able to send our kids to school and not worry that some idiot comes in and shoots them. Any one can get guns in America- in stores, on the streets. Even Kip Kinkel got some of his guns from his parents (the same guns he later killed them with). I'm not for the total abolishment of all guns, but the laws should be much tighter! To tell you the truth, when I hear about school shooting in America, I'm just not surprised. Oregon. California. Colorado. Kentucky. Arkansas. Florida... it goes on and on.

I have a question concerning the gun violence issue that we have been seeing in our schools that I believe needs to be addressed.

Why are the number of violent shootings increasing ?

If these children were bringing kitchen knives to school instead of guns and using them to stab and kill their fellow classmates would there be a national outrage to eliminate kitchen knives? The answer that most inteligent people would give to this question is NO WE ARE NOT GOING TO ELIMINATE KITCHEN KNIVES. We need to understand why the problem is happening and what we can do as parents and members of our community to solve the problem.

How long will it take our society to understand that if you continue to expose some portion of the grade school children and high school teenagers to graffically violent movies, music and interactive video games where the point is to kill and toture people that there will be a major influence on our children. If in additional to this some of these children are abused by their parents or other people it increase the violent reactions we are seeing. If parents keep allowing children to BUY THIS GARBAGE and abusing children we should not be surprised at the results we are seeing. The solution to the problem is not to apply a band-aid it's parents getting involved with the schools to solve the problem.

If the gun problem is really that children now have easy access to guns then why didn't rural children in the 60s, 70s and 80s that we allowed to have their own guns go to school and shoot their clase mates ? I believe the answer to this question is that these children understood that a gun is a weapon that is never pointed at anything you don't intend to put a large hole in. They also were taught respect for life and understood that the gun had the fire power to end a life. I know these were the lessons taught to me by my father.

I think our society should stop looking for simple short term solutions to complex problems. Metal detectors in schools are not the solution to this problem. Teaching our children to respect others and how to resolve problems is the solution. I don't think children should spend 2 hours or more per day with killing simulators / violent video games and violent movies as a solution to the current school violence problem. I think violence that children as exposed is the problem. Are we willing to take the first step and get involved or do we still believe that if we could just eliminate all those evel guns the problem would go away?
