Our Family is praying for the people of Taiwan and all those helping in the rescue efforts. The love of God is as near as our thoughts.

Alanna M: My brother-in-law and family live in Taichung also. I am frustrated too by news reports only focusing on Taipei. If anyone out there is getting news on Taichung, please point us in the right direction. Also, anyone who's been through this, what's the best way to persue a communication channel?! He does have cell phone which might be digital. Anyone know enough about Taiwanese phone service to estimate how long it might take to be back up again?

I have family who is planing on leaving the US and returning home to Taichung today (9-21). Is this a very bad idea? Plane ticket is scheduled already. If it is canceled, it will be costly, however, it may be better to wait a few days or a week. Any information about airports, roads into and out of Taichung? Thanks. Personal replys may be made to @erie.net">jim@erie.net

Jenn...
I live in Yung Ho City and the damage here is very minimal. There may be some structural damage to some buildings, but there are no buildings collapsed.
I am sure that your pen-pal is fine if she lives in Yung Ho...
There is much damage throughout the island and hundreds are dead. The Taiwanese are resilient and will perservere... thank you for your thoughts and prayers...

I am extremely concerned about the well-being of my father who resides on Dai-Yi St. in Taichung. I have no idea in what part of the city the street is located. I would appreciate any info on the conditions of that area of the city. My prayers are with all who suffers.

1. The US National Earthquake Information Center used the surface-wave measurement to measure the maginitude of the earthquake in Taiwan. While Taiwan's official report of 7.3 was based on Ritcher scale. It is quite usual when there's a major earthquake(defined by Ritcher scale as maginitute between 7.0-8.0), the US NEIC will report higher maginitute, since it uses a more advanced way to measure the earthquake than the old-fashioned Ritcher's.

2. Praise for the Fairfax Rescue Team from Virginia, they are the heroes of this country. President Clinton should deliver his personal condolences to the victims in Taiwan. I hope that the communist in Beijing won't do anything stupid to take advantage of Taiwan's chaotic situation now. Peace for Taiwan!

My daughter is a Canadian teaching in Hsinchu, but I do not have an address or telephone number for her since she was in the process of moving into a new apartment. Can anyone report on extent of damage in Hsinchu?

The people of Taiwan do not need this. You have gone through a lot with intimidation from China. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
