The West and Russia have their own agenda in this brutal war. West has created the bogey of islamic fundamentalists and financing the war in Chechnya to stamp out ' terrorism'. They should have first stamped out terrorism in the streets of Moscow before venturing into Chechnya. Same way US should clean its own backyard of rampant crime, mass muders and drugs before meddling elsewhere. Poor civilians and poor Russian soldiers and Chechen fighters are dying in thousands and West is looking into the pockets of the fallen ones for its economic well being. Economic and so called strategic interests rein paramount over human misery for these traitors to human kind.

Well stated by Anti-Racist

Russians should stamp out the terrorism in their own capital, before venturing out into Chechnya.

Even the most hypocritical liars on this board know, that this terrorist campaign against Chechyna was initiated to keep (soon to be dead) Yeltsin and his loyal dog, Putin in power.

“Why is this barbaric war going on at all?” Did you just fond out about this war? One reason is Moscow bombing of buildings, which Chechens promised they would do. Chechens invaded Dagestan (Russia) There years of kidnapping and killing in the region (Russia didn’t care because Chechens were given independents and unlike West we did not wanted interfere with them, but they went too far, they invaded Russia) I think this is enough.

“Why is there so little media-coverage concerning Chechnya world-wide.” West doesn’t give a •••• what happens in there, they pretend they do but in reality they could care less.

“Who is financing this war? Russia is broke.” No it’s not, yet anyway. Read newspapers, west is not supporting this war financially at least officially. Just recently Japan gave Russia 300 million (it was more but I don’t remember exact numbers) take a guess where this money will go?

“Why is it that Europe, North America, the IMF and others do not immediately stop financial support for russia (and thus stop supporting this war)?” I mast admit this is not very bright question. IMF just recently said that they would not give money and even said it largely due to the Chechens conflict. It won’t solve anything, Russia doesn’t care about IMF money and everyone in there accepted the idea that we will have to do with out IMF money.

“Why is there completely insufficient help for the suffering refugees, mainly children, women and older men?” There is mainly from Russian government and I know it for a fact. Red Cross said it wouldn’t help until the war is over they even left the Chechnya territory due to the fact that Chechens shoot at them too.

“Why is there no political pressure to stop this genocidal war?” There is especially from Europe and U.S. but once again Russia doesn’t give sh!t. It is Russia territory and we dealing with it the way they deserve to be dealt with.

You and other jewish fundamentalists may kiss Russian butt all you want, but the bottom line is that your beloved Russian friends are bankrupt, their economy in shambles. Their politics of terrorism is only a short term move that will create immense dissent in the Caucaus regions. Russia ONLY survives because of handouts. You will see in your lifetime the capitulation of Russia to the Caucus regions.

Dear everybody,

Well, first of all, I'd like to say something about all that "Russia is bankrupt" stuff. Do you believe Yahoo? According to it, Russia has the world's 9th largest global domestic product(GDP). This is not much, but enough to finance this war.

Link supplied: http://travel.yahoo.com/Destinations/Europe//Countries/Russia/facts.html

And, there are also some questions I would like to ask you all:

A. Russia had a peace treaty with Chechnya. Chechnya attacked Russia. What should Russia do to prevent such attacks in future?

B. What would have happened if the SU had stopped its army at the borders in 1944 (at the borders of Soviet Union, when the Germans were removed from its territory) and signed an honor peace treaty with Germany?

C. How does the question B relate to question A?

Sincerely,
Denis A.Vassiltchev

P.S. I'm Russian (by citizenship and by place of residence)

P.P.S. Oh, year, Mr Mattheson, I also don't like the fact that some Russians are leaving Russia for your barbaric country. I really, really pity them. O'k, they will remain civilized (most of them), but, unfortunately, their children will probably degrade to the level of average Americans. And there is no greater pain for the parent as to see your child being dumb and brainwashed.

Hundreds of Russians killed in latest battles: Grozny
GROZNY, Russia, Dec 1 (AFP) -
Hundreds of Russian soldiers have been killed in battles between federal troops and Chechen fighters, military officials in the rebel capital said on Wednesday.

Invading federal troops lost 70 armoured vehicles in intense clashes around the town of Argun, eight kilometres (five miles) east of Grozny and Alkhan-Yurt, the same distance southwest of the capital, said Chechen General Aslambek Arsayev.

Chechen casualties were light, the general said. It was not possible to independently verify the report although Russian officials confirm fighting is currently raging in the Argun area.

Chechen guerrillas are in the fifth day of a counter-attack focused on districts east of Grozny, a thrust Russian troops have struggled to counter.

According to Chechen military sources, the towns of Noibyora and Novogroznensky seized in recent days remain in rebel hands, despite Russian claims to have retaken the latter.

Meanwhile, Chechen special forces have surrounded former Grozny mayor Bislan Gantamirov, who returned to his homeland to lead a pro-Moscow force of Chechens against the separatist authorities.

Gantamirov, tapped to become the head of a pro-Moscow Chechen administration, is currently encircled in the village of Gekhi, around 20 kilometres (12 miles) southwest of Grozny, said Aslambek Ismailov, a military aide to Chechen President Aslan Maskhadov.
