The fighting in the mountainous zone in the south of Chechnya continues. The principal combat action is taking place 6 km west of Khorsenoy. The units of the mujahideen are applying the tactics of mobile defense: Mobile defense positions are being built up on the main routes of Russian advance while special units of the mujahideen attack the flanks of the Russians. These tactics has proved suitable to inflict the highest possible casualties on the enemy and to disturb his plans most effectively.
According to the Chechen side another helicopter was brought down near height 2075.9.
The Russians in these regions are trying to fortify themselves on the heights captured by them and to artillery control of several mountain paths.

Kuwaiti MP Salutes "Hero" Killed Fighting Alongside Chechen Rebels
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 21, 2000 -- (Agence France Presse) An MP has praised as
a "hero" a Kuwaiti killed fighting alongside Chechen rebels during an
attack on Russian forces in the breakaway republic, newspapers reported
Saturday.
Salem al-Ajmi was "a hero who sacrificed his life in the fields of
Jihad," or Islamic holy war, Islamist MP Walid al-Tabtabai said, quoted
by the Arab Times.
Tabtabai, coordinator of a Kuwaiti organization which voices solidarity
for Muslim Chechnya, said that "Ajmi spent four months fighting
alongside Chechen fighters."
Ajmi, two Chechens and a Yemeni national died in an attack on a Russian
army convoy during which "several soldiers" were killed.
The 22-year-old Kuwaiti, whose wife reportedly gave birth to their first
child just three days after his death, was a theology student at Kuwait
university.
He also worked as a muezzin, or a deputy preacher who calls Muslims to
prayer, before leaving Kuwait to fight in Chechnya last November, said
Tabtabai, who congratulated the Ajmi family on his "martyrdom."

1,000 Protest Chechen War In Moscow Rally
MOSCOW, Feb 21, 2000 -- (Agence France Presse) Some 1,000 people marched
through Moscow Saturday to protest the war in Chechnya, calling for a
halt to the massacre.
"We must make the acting president (Vladimir Putin) understand that if
he continues in this way, democratic forces will not support him," said
organizer Valery Borshchev.
Putin, who took office on a wave of support for his tough line on
Chechnya, faces a presidential election on March 26 as the Russian death
toll mounts.
During the march, organized by human rights organizations, demonstrators
ignored a chilling rain, shouting "no military censorship," "stop the
massacre," and "don't kill our sons."
Two previous anti-war demonstrations this month attracted only around
100 people.
The fighting in Chechnya was taking place "a long way away, ... but it
reminds us of the Soviet era and I do not want that to happen in
Russia," said Evgeny, 22, in explaining his participation.
"Our children are learning to steal, to rape and to kill on their own
territory. It is awful," said Lyudmila Obraztsova, a member of the
committee of mothers of soldiers.
Little anti-war sentiment has emerged so far in Russia, and some leading
intellectuals, including Nobel prize laureate Alexander Solzhenitsyn, a
former dissident, have backed the military intervention in Chechnya in
the name of security for Russia.
Yelena Bonner, widow of Nobel peace prize winner Andrei Sakharov,
recently alleged the Chechen people were targets of "genocide.
