antonio,
'patriotism' and 'love of country' arent necessarily hand in hand. i hitchhiked through the great majority of this land. i saw it from ground level. did you? nahhhhh.
yeah, touche re: "or leave the country." but someone who believes in witch-doctor popes and great conspiracies and secret societies has IMO compromised their own freedom of speech, that is, made so much less of it as to be just one more crank. not ever to be taken seriously.
just what we all need...one more crank.

Jericho61 dba BILLj.barufi,

I am constantly amazed that some sickos, like BILLj.barufi, even though suffering from a severe mental disability actually find their way to this board. I wonder if old BILLj really believes that his disjointed ravings represent anything more than a pimple on the ass of rational people who engage in intelligent discussion about issues and facts.

Kavkaz-Tsentr reports

The fighting in Argun Valley continues. Russian artillery and aviation almost incessantly bombs the Chechen positions and the villages Duba-Yurt, Chishki, Varandy, Zonakh and Yarsh-Mardy.
On sunday, in the second half of the day the Russians once again tried to assault the tactical heights occupied by the Chechens and the village Duba-Yurt. They attacked with armoured vehicles and so-called picked troops, i.e. marine infantry, paratroopers etc. The Chechens opened fire and after one hour switched over to a counter-attack. Having lost two tanks, two BMPs and more than 30 Spetsnaz-men the the enemy was forced to retreat.
To the same time, another Russian attack with the intention to move from Alkhazurovo to Surat failed.
This morning the bombardment in Argun Valley started with renewed strength.

A few sub-units of the Chechen rear-guard which sheltered the withdrawal from Dzhokhar are still engaged in combat activities in the Urus-Martan and Achkhoy-Martan districts. These units are moving southwards whilst the Russian are trying to block-up this movement by attacking the concerned villages and routes.
According to Apti, the commander of one these sub-units, the Chechen rear-guard lost 17 Mujahideen during the operations to shelter the withdrawal. He says that despite the massive Russian bomb-raids and shelling the Chechens successfully retreat to their bases in the south. According to him the Russians continue to bomb the villages of western Chechnya and to kill civilians by this on the pretext of having encircled "Chechen fighters" in these villages.

THE WAY THINGS ARE...according to American TV..

MSNBC/ International News

MOSCOW REBUFFS TALKS WITH REBELS
Interfax said representatives of Chechen President Aslan Maskhadov had been trying in recent days to start negotiations with Moscow on the future of the region but had been rebuffed.

Interfax quoted sources in the Russian security forces as saying the Chechens must first unconditionally lay down their weapons.

"Any talks with the leaders of the illegal bands are possible only on condition of their full capitulation and surrender of weapons," it quoted them saying.

Maskhadov, elected president in January 1997 after commanding rebel forces during the 1994-96 war, has kept a low profile during this conflict.

Russia says he has proven incapable of controlling warlords like Basayev and argues that he has forfeited the right to be considered the legitimate leader of Chechnya by declaring his region independent and introducing Islamic Sharia law there.

Interfax said another warlord, Arab-born Khattab, was coordinating plans to defend rebel strongholds in the mountains. It said the fighters were also trying to overcome Russia's block of a key mountain route leading south into ex-Soviet Georgia.

Russia's NTV television has shown footage of fighters heading through snowbound forests onto higher ground. NTV said some of the fighters spoke languages other than Chechen, highlighting the role of foreign mercenaries in the war.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.
