Monday 17 January 2000: Enemy Reconnaissance Platoon Wiped Out

Heavy, continuous shelling took place all day long in the South and East of Grozny, and the Southern mountainous regions of Chechnya. This shelling was carried out by aeroplanes, rockets and heavy artillery.

An enemy reconnaissance platoon was wiped out together with the destruction of a T-80 battle tank and four fighting vehicles, killing tens of soldiers.

The Mujahideen carried out an offensive operation on Russian positions in Shatoi.

Russian Forces continue to surround a Mujahideen unit in Shatoi. Battles have now been raging for the fourth consecutive day at a pass leading to the main entry point into Shatoi.

Sunday 16 January 2000 Disastrous 'Undercover' Operation Led by Lieutenant-Colonel

The Russian Forces tried to creep up to the Mujahideen positions in Serghenyort late Saturday night from within a dense forest. A Naval Infantry Unit from amongst them reached the Mujahideen just as they were changing guard patrols. As soon as the Russians saw the Mujahideen marching in order to replace their comrades on patrol, they began to fire at the Mujahideen. They were under the impression that the Mujahideen wanted to outflank and surround them. A vicious close-quarters battle took place in which the Mujahideen were able to annihilate that Russian Unit, killing 28 soldiers (including one Lieutenant-Colonel) and injuring those that fled. Four Chechen Mujahideen and one Foreign Mujahid (Abu Hudhaifah Al-Yamaani from the Arabian Peninsula) were martyred; we ask Allah to accept them from the martyrs. Three brothers were injured. The Mujahideen captured one grenade launcher and a quantity of light weapons.

The Mujahideen found a map in the possession of the dead Russian Officer, in which the positions of the Mujahideen were marked out in red. The map also contained diagrams of planned attacks on Mujahideen positions identical to those on the map found on the body of the officer who was killed by the Mujahideen yesterday (Saturday).

Mujahideen SAM-7 Anti-Aircraft Missile Scores Direct Hit on Russian Helicopter

After this battle that took place between the Mujahideen and the Russian Crusaders, the Russians sent out helicopter Search and Rescue teams to the area in order to extract their wounded. During the extraction operation, the Mujahideen hit this helicopter with a SAM-7 missile causing it major structural damage. The fact that the Russians sent helicopter extraction teams in this incident proves that this was a special Russian unit whose job was to penetrate behind Mujahideen lines. The Mujahideen have also learnt the difference between the uniforms of the ordinary and Special Forces troops. They also noticed the high-quality of weapons and ammunition that this unit was using, further proving that this was a Russian Special Naval Infantry Unit.

They Were Not Successful in Disassembling the Siege...

The Mujahideen surrounded a group from the Russian Forces in the city of Yarmolak and asked them to surrender. The Russians took the initiative to send a support group of infantry to them, lead by four motorised vehicles. The Mujahideen engaged the group and destroyed two motorised vehicles, but most of the Russian soldiers ran away. Then the Mujahideen attacked the surrounded group, killed four and took the rest as captives.

Destruction of the Russian Leadership....

The Mujahideen launched an attack on the village of Najr-Yurt, which is on the Grozny-Russian route, and fierce battles took place there. The Mujahideen destroyed the headquarters of the Russian Leadership in the village. More than 25 soldiers from the enemy were killed and three were captured, including a Commander. Likewise, in this battle the Mujahideen destroyed two army personnel carriers and a movable Shalacher. They captured two Tanks, two BMP vehicles and a great deal of ammunition. No one from the Mujahideen was killed, except four who suffered small injuries.
