Russia sucks in the Council of Europe. Today russian delegation was NOT registered there. Russian complete exclusion is an increasing possibility. Let's wait a couple of days.

Next should be G7 MINUS russia.

Russians 'concealing casualties'

Russian artillery shelling rebel positions in Grozny

Fighting continues to rage in Chechnya for control of the capital, Grozny, amid new reports that Russian forces are suffering much higher casualties than they are admitting.

The independent Russian NTV station said casualties among Russian troops were 10 times higher than the official figures.

The news came as Moscow's powerful mayor, Yuri Luzhkov, added his voice to the criticism of the campaign.

The Russian Government's tactics had "produced negative results", the Interfax newsagency quoted him as saying.

He said the Kremlin had not listened to his advice to limit the Russian aim to setting up a security zone.

Meanwhile, conflicting claims are coming out of Chechnya about the fate of a Russian general who
disappeared in Grozny last week.

Russian military officials say the body of General Mikhail Malofeyev was found in Grozny, and has been airlifted to a military base west of the Chechen border, before burial in St Petersburg later this week.

But the Chechen rebels say the general is alive and is still being questioned.

Media's mood changes

A BBC correspondent near the Chechen border, Paul Anderson, says that the mood - at least among the
non-state media - is changing.

The country's media no longer seems willing to follow the government and military line of reporting battlefield successes and low casualties without question.

NTV has reported that between 30 and 50 Russian
corpses are being taken daily to the central military morgue at Rostov, in southern Russia.

The Russian military is admitting that it continues to meet resistance, as rebel forces hit back with ambushes and sniper fire.

Reports suggest that the federal forces are taking a building at a time, where they are able to advance.

In some areas, Russian troops succeed in taking a building during daylight only to lose it in rebel
counter attacks overnight.

The Russian Itar-Tass news agency quoted generals as saying that their forces had raised the Russian flag over a district in the north-west of the city after fighting on Sunday.

They were also maintaining control over an important bridge across the Sunzha River.

Air operations

Elsewhere, Russian warplanes and helicopter gunships continued to pound suspected rebel bases, flying more than 100 missions in 24 hours,
according to the Interfax news agency.

Air operations were particularly intense in the
Argun and Vedeno gorges in south-eastern Chechnya.

Russian forces have captured the large Chechen
village of Vedeno, which lies on a strategic rebel
supply and escape route and has been under sustained attack for weeks.

But guerrillas still maintain bases in the steep gorges, which are almost impenetrable in winter.

Council of Europe

In Strasbourg, the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe is hearing a report from a delegation which has been to the region.

The council has previously warned that Russia could face suspension from the parliamentary body over its treatment of Chechen civilians.

The speaker of the council's parliament in Strasbourg has said he will seek the suspension of Russia's delegation to the body.

Lord Russell-Johnston of Britain, who led a Council of Europe delegation to Russia last week, said the Christian Democratic group in the Strasbourg would formally request the sanction
against Russia at a session later on Monday.

Lord Russell-Johnston said the actual vote would not take place until Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov attends an emergency assembly debate on Chechnya scheduled for Thursday.

Igor - "Ultra the site was about how that Geidar helped siphon off money and why Russia is state it is in."

I see, everyone wants to steal from Russia. We have the most to offer.

To onlooker or whoever posted messages about Russian prisoners, its all bullshitt. Where in the world did you get that BS or did you write it yourself? For example, oh i am not sure why were are here, im kind of stupid you know, i just kinda felt like not reading newspaper or speaking to my fellow comrades on why. What sort of fool would fight now knowing the reason. Ill say its chechens ones thats who. They fighting and killing innocent civilians and putting there own people to suffer. They can end it all by giving up because they will lose either way. I strongly think that to end all this chechens and hatred is to make a fuckingg statement, You fuckking leave Grozny now!! now!! now!!! or we drop some huge fuckking bomb on it! No more fuckking deals, this is final shitt! Civilians Russian or not, come out now if you want to leave, quit sitting there like a bunch of idiotsl, you are costing Russian and chechen lives. Help incenerate all those caucic blacks by leaving now. You have 24 hours, trapped or not. No more Mercy!

But then again its my opinion on how i would handle this situation.

Body Of Russia General Found In Chechnya

MOSCOW, Jan 24, 2000 -- (Reuters) Rescue teams sent to search for Major-General Mikhail Malofeyev, who went missing in the Chechen capital Grozny last week, found his body on Sunday and said he had died in battle, Russian news agencies said.

Finding out the fate of Malofeyev, one of the key commanders in the war zone, had become crucially important for Moscow after the rebels claimed they had captured him and were interrogating him outside the Chechen capital.

Itar-Tass news agency quoted deputy commander in Chechnya Lieutenant-General Gennady Troshin as saying rescue teams had found Malofeyev's body in a no-man's zone lying in the trench close to where he had personally led an attack.

Troshin said that in the course of two-day rescue operation, rebels had attempted to seized Malofeyev's body but had been driven away by the Russian artillery.

"He was a hero," Tass quoted another Russian commander in Chechnya, Viktor Kazantsev, as saying. "When an attack unit of the Interior Ministry forces messed up, he stood up and led a group of soldiers to cover the backs of the main force."

Interfax news agency quoted Sergei Yastrzhembsky, a senior aide to Acting President Vladimir Putin in charge of information about Chechnya, as saying Malofeyev's body had been taken after a brief mourning ceremony to Vladikavkaz, capital of Chechnya's neighbor North Ossetia.

The military has said that, eight days after Russia launched the latest committed attempt to seize Grozny, there is no definite front line in the city and street battles between troops and mobile rebel groups are raging in almost every corner.

It took the Russian military two days to acknowledge that Malofeyev had gone missing on January 18. This triggered speculation in opposition media that the situation in Grozny was far worse than officials had reported and casualties were much higher than official figures.

Russian troops advanced smoothly in the first three months of the latest Chechen campaign, seizing much of the populated lowlands in northern and central parts of the breakaway province.

But there advance slowed as they engaged in street fighting in Grozny and faced strong rebel resistance in the southern mountains.

The Chechen rebels claimed they had seized Malofeyev, who was part of the command in the war zone, and were interrogating him outside Grozny.

Russia had admitted the general was missing and sent rescue teams to look for him in a no-man's zone in Grozny, where he was last seen. Interfax quoted Yastrzhembsky as saying Malofeyev's body had been taken to the capital of the Russian region of North Ossetia, Chechnya's neighbor. It gave no other details.

Russia, which is engaged in a four-month campaign against separatist rebels, is facing a growing rebel resistance in Grozny and the southern mountains of Chechnya.

Advise to the international media:
Stop calling the freedom fighters of Chechnia,
rebels. There is a whole nation fighting for their survival not just few handfull of rebels.
Why the Russians are unwilling to give Checnia
independence state as they give to other states.

If Chechens can servive the relentless bombing
and shelling of Russian's mighty Army they can
servive in this world as an independence nation too.
Mind it that Muslim sought their help from Allah not from
any wealthy super powers and all of us know that how scared
the wealthy nations are at this time from fear of loosing their money.
Go through the history the nations once claimed to be rich super powers
like Romans, Persians and English loses their powers and the poorest
countries like Arabs got rich without any effort. The beauty of Islam
is that we worship only one God , which is Allah. We worhip him and
obey only his orders not the personel orders of any human being or
wealthy nation and we dont afraid of dying in his way as we belive
that there is a better place hereafter. And in the end I like to
mention that for muslims religion is not separated from our daily
life because we use it as our guidance and we are very clear in our
mind about that. God bless all of us.

Russia is paying a heavy price in chechnya. So far they lost more than 3000 soldiers and counting. But their real losses will be after the war is over. The chechnyian fighters will stage gurrella war fare on them that will make them regret ever entring chechnya. In the end, the russian scum soldiers will leave chechnya again with their tails between their legs and the chechnyan muslems will be victorious. This chechnyan war will be marked as the war that diminished Russia from a second world country to a third world country. It's been 4 months so far, and 100,000 russian soldiers can't win over 2000 proud chechnyans. That's the power of islam. And shame on all the muslem and arab leaders who are sitting there looking the other way. I am embarrassed to say I belong to one of these countries. But the chechnyan people will win in the end. The palestinians taught the israelis a big lesson in beirut and made them pay a heavy price for entering it, and now the chechnyans will do the same to the slow stupid russian soldiers who were dying like flies in world war 2.

I would love to help the chechnyan people not only by words but by contributing to their struggle. If anybody knows an organization that's helping the chechnyans please let me know. I want to donate as much as I can for their jihad but I don't know any organization that's helping.

May Allah be with you dear chechnyan brothers. Muslems all over the world are follwing your struggle inspite of their traitor governments.

Russian Media Say Army Understates War Dead

Reuters Photo

By Michael Steen

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Many more Russian soldiers are being killed in Chechnya than official figures suggest, two commercial Russian news organizations said Monday.

Interfax news agency quoted sources in the security forces as saying 926 Russian soldiers had been killed in Chechnya, including 529 in the last month alone. NTV television said 10 times more troops were now being killed than officials let on.

Let me bring i nmy calculator:
926x10=9,926 dead russians, give and take a couple of heads here and there.
