3 BUSINESSMEN KILLED, 1 WOUNDED IN APPARENT HITS

MOSCOW, RUSSIA -- In a spate of apparent contract hits in Moscow, three businessmen were shot to death and one was badly wounded, police said Friday.

Valery Mironov, owner of a vodka trading company, died of multiple gunshot wounds when a gunman emptied his pistol into Mironov's car near his office. The daily Moskovsky Komsomolets quoted police investigators as saying that Mironov, 32, had received threats from a company where he worked previously and was even briefly kidnapped recently.

In another killing Thursday, Vladimir Kazakov, the 32-year-old owner of a security firm, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in his car.

Police said Semyon Ponomaryov, 35, deputy chairman of the board of a bank was also killed with a shot to the head Thursday. Three gunmen wounded a construction company head Nikolai Zhiryakov, 39, on Thursday
