Official dies in Chechen ambush

A Chechen local government official was shot dead in a rebel ambush on Sunday, the latest victim of an assassination campaign
against Chechens who work for the pro-Moscow government.
Bukara Akhmatov was head of the administration in the village of Oktyabrskoye, the government said.
Meanwhile Interfax reported that Russian troops had found and defused a bomb on Sunday near the house of Akhmad Kadyrov,
head of the government, who has survived several assassination attempts this year.
Russian soldiers killed two rebels who tried to flee after planting a mine near the village of Prigorodny, Itar-Tass reported.
Yesterday Russian jets and helicopters continued to bomb forested areas in the south of the country. Rebels attacked Russian
positions 15 times in 24 hours, mostly with grenades and small arms, officials said. There was sporadic gunfire in the capital,
Grozny.
The Russian military claims that rebel resistance has been all but crushed after a year of fighting, but the rebels show no sign of
giving up their struggle for independence and mount almost daily attacks on the federal forces.

Ukraine Foiled Assassination Attempt on Putin

KIEV, Ukraine ó Ukrainian security agents foiled an attempt to kill President Vladimir Putin, the head of Ukraine's security service said Tuesday.
Putin was among nine leaders of former Soviet republics who attended an informal summit last month in Crimea. Leonid Derkach, chief of the security service, reported earlier that a planned attack on one of those attending the meeting had been thwarted.
Putin was widely suspected to be the target, but this was the first time that Derkach actually confirmed those suspicions.
Derkach said several foreign secret services ó but not those belonging to any of the former Soviet republics ó had informed their Ukrainian colleagues about the planned attack, Interfax reported.
The Ukrainian security service passed the information along to Moscow and detained several people on the Black Sea peninsula who were then expelled from Ukraine, he said. Earlier, Derkach said four people from the breakaway region of Chechnya and several from the Middle East were detained in connection with the foiled plot.
Moscow is waging a war in Chechnya against separatist rebels, whom it claims are backed by Muslim extremists from abroad.
A Ukrainian security service spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity, declined to elaborate on Derkach's statements, which were made in the eastern city of Dnipropetrovsk.
However, the spokesman confirmed that several "partner secret services" had informed the Ukrainian security service about plans to organize "anti-social" actions during the Aug. 18-19 summit in the Crimean city of Yalta. He did not further characterize those actions.
During the summit, Putin was accessible only to a select group of mostly Russian journalists. He attended only the first day of meetings and left Ukraine late in the evening of Aug. 18, saying he had to be at home to deal with the Kursk nuclear submarine disaster.

Yeah hi Fred, Ultra.I just changed my kitchen cupboard doors to the tune of $3000,now I have Chelini doors.Real wood and look really good.Will take some time off before I start doing the tileing with granite.Plus I still am working on my rec room.It is really quiet here now all the tourists have gone home and good riddence.

IGOR, WOW. SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE PUTTING ALOT OF TIME INTO YOUR HOUSE. ARE YOU JUST REMODELING IT OR CONSTRUCTING IT? DO YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? LIKE IS IT JUST BUILT OR ARE YOU REMODELING. ANYWAYS, I AM TOO FIXING UP MY PLACE, JUST FINISHED PAINTING THE KITCHEN, LIVING ROOM AND HALLWAY. NEXT WEEK WILL BEGIN TO DO BEDROOMS. JUST PUT IN SQUARE TILING NEAR THE FIRE PLACE AND IN BOTH BATHROOMS. ALSO PUT IT IN KITCHEN. REPLACED SOME OF THE BULBS AND INTERNAL PARTS TO GIVE BETTER LOOKS. WILL ALSO HAVE TO REINSTAL SATTELITE BECAUSE I JUST BOUGHT NEW PLATE AND NEW TO DISMANTLE OLD ONE. ITS ALL SO FAR COST ME AROUND $5,600 AROUND THE ENTIRE PLACE. BUT YOURS IS SOUNDING GOOD. REC ROOM AND ALL. LOL!
