I LIVED IN DEGIMENDRE FROM MAY 1963 TO MAY 1965, I WOULD LIKE ANY INFORMATION ON MY FRIEND MAMET ALI AYDEN WHO OWNED THE GARAGE AND GAS STATION IN GOLCHUK. HE ALSO DID MACHINE WORK FOR THE UNIROYAL FACTORY. ALSO ON JIMMY THE TURK WHO DID MUCH TO HELP THE AMERICANS WHO LIVED IN THE AREA. AT ONE TIME I RAN AN AMERICAN CLUB CALLED THE SEASIDE CLUB, I WONDER IF IT AND THE HOME I LIVED IN ON THE SHORE OF THE SEA OF MARARA ARE STILL STANDING. MY HOUSEE WAS BESIDE THE MAYOR OF GOLCHUK'S HOME AND THE WAS A THIRD HOUSE ON THE OTHER SIDE MY MINE. ANY INFO WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED AND THE PEOPLE OF TURKEY WERE VERY GOOD TO ME AND MY FAMILY.

People who are worried about their friends living in Istanbul can calm down because the earthquake caused damage only in Avcilar/Istanbul because of the geological formation of Avcilar besides wrong construction methods. Between a number of 10~15 houses affected. There are no damages at the other sides of the city. But Izmit, Yalova, Sakarya and their villages were affected very badly because the fault line is passing under these cities. Golcuk a district of Izmit nowadays is a ruin city and some parts of the city sank 6~7m under the sea. Altough the whole Turkish society and the other countries are trying to help their fellows, they have still needed help and will need in the following days (especially children). so please try to share our sorrow by not only watching tv in a pathetic mood but try to help. this is one of the terrible(the big one)disasters of this century.
