I'm urgently looking for news of Emma Cresswell of Ching Nien 1st Rd, Lane 200, No 8 5th floor, Kaohsiung. She's just moved there to teach English. She's probably outside the worst of it but I need to know. Please help if you can. Thanks, Jim

My name Jeff and me brother's Joe, we are looking for any new imformation on how to contact residents in Taichaung. Our parents, Chyi-Chyang Lin(Jim), Chen Yu-Ming Lin(Claudia) and sister Joanne Lin live at 102 Hui Wen 7th street in Taichung. Any information concerning that area would also be extremely helpful. Thank you and best wishes to everyone.

I posted a message yesterday about John Greenwood and have now heard he is fine. He rang from the Longching district in Taichung and said electricity and water services are now working again. According to him the area didn't appear to be much damaged. Hope this brings some comfort.

To Beck Hodgson, Joep Munten and Arden Schmitt,
I believe the Taiwan Folk Village is safe, so should be your friends. The TV evenening news at 2330 local time reported that the foreign performers have had a fund raising at the village. While Chuang Hwa has been badly hit, especially in Yuan Lin Chen (for Joep Munten's information), the casualties have been centred limited to certain areas. The devastation is not extensive.
Toliu is another city that has been quite damaged, especially in city centre. If you need any help, just write to my email box.

Local holiday, Moon Festival, is coming Friday. Expect to see people migrate home for reunion.
Power supply is unlikely to resume normal throughout the week; be patient and keep trying.

I am working in Michigan and both my wife and a year old daugther are still in Taipei (Jiem Mei area). I tried to reach them since 8PM Monday night till 4AM Tuesday monring without any luck. Apparently all phone lines were either busied or off, as expected. I finally reached them at 7AM Tuesday morning !!

Accordingly, the downtown area (Taipei) didn't experience any major damage.

I am making a trip to Taipei on next Thursday (9/30).

The following is an extremely helpful site. They helped locate a good friend of my father in Taipei very quickly. He was fine. My prayers are with everyone. I'm grateful to DMS for providing this service -- and for so many caring, loving people in this world.

My friend Norm Apter is an American student from Virginia who attends the University in Taipei living at 112-3 Jin Jiang Street in Taipei. His family and friends have yet to hear from him since the earthquake and would appreciate any news.
