I am a native of SC living in Colorado. My brother lives in Charleston and altho' his family has evacuated, he is considered essential (by nature of his work) and will be riding out Floyd in Charleston, just as he did Hugo 10 years ago. My prayers are for him, his family evacuated to Columbia, my husband who is with his elderly parents in Orangeburg and other relatives and friends in the state. All of you there are constantly in my thoughts and prayers. RML

Folks, I am listening to amateur radio ops in the Abacos on a continuous basis. Be assured that I will report any information that I hear regarding weather, property damage and injuries. So far there has been plenty of weather, vague reports of property damage and no reports of injuries.

The Abacos are still in the middle of this storm. Winds have been reported to 160 MPH. NO ONE is out and about checking for damage, etc. They are trying to save their skins. I don't mean to be harsh but you are going to have to be patient and understand what is going on down there.

I will post any info I get via radio the second I receive it. I have to take a break this afternoon and coach soccer (6P-7P EDT) but back after that.

I know that EVERYONE in the Bahamas appreciates your concern as I do.

Thanks for your cooperation.

This website is the SC Emergency Preparedness Site. The URL above has the mandatory evacuation zone marked.

Incredible.

As you can see Abaco is sitting right in the eye of the storm. Our best to all.
Have been planning on a trip there next summer.

The current location as of 5pm of the center is given as 26.5n 77.4 w, which puts it
twenty miles west of Marsh Harbour, and twenty miles south of Green Turtle.
Its slowing down to 12 mph, and still lookslike it is heading for Fox Town and Walkers.

Earl Russell, C6AGH, GTC, reports at 5PM EDT, winds from E/ESE at 15-20 MPH estimated. Pressure 27.64 and rising. Eight inches of water in his radio room.

Bob Ball, KC4JVZ/C6A, Little Harbour, reports at same time, winds from 220 degrees at 30 knots, gusting to 40 knots, measured. However, measurements taken in protected area. I guess so!!!! Pressure is 27.60 and rising.

No further reports of damage. I expect to see some soon as the National Hurricane Center is now asking for info on damage. I will post them ASAP.

NHC JUST reported at 5:11P EDT that Hurricane Gert is CAT III. When is going to stop?????????????

To: Steve Rutledge

You are the salt of the earth. We much appreciate your passing on your news, and I hope you manage to make contact with your radio later. We are especially anxious to get some indication of the situation in Eleuthera. Our hopes and prayers are with the poor souls there. Thank you, Steve.

Just received a call from Sinclair on Sat phone from Treasure Cay........

Treasure Cay is in the eye at the moment. There have been no injuries reported.
Everybody is safe and taking shelter at the Community Centre and Medical Clinic.
The bottom level of all the condo's are flooded and some houses are without
roofs. There is considerable damage to property in the area. His exact words
were "it's a real mess here".
Green Turtle Cay has reported winds of 140 mph.
Power and phone service is out. Sinclair believes it will be some time before
service is restored

According to an email from a friend who works the Ferry, from Marsh to Guana,
Main Street in Great Guana is no longer visible, completely flooded and Guana Beach Resort's Restaurant, and bungalow style cottages are ruined due to winds and flooding.
I can only imagine what else has been doen to residents.
AGAIN....
I am available to come to Abacos for repaiting, rebuliding(I have bulit homes on an Apalachia Service project) re-plant, etc etc. Please be advised.
Erin
