Igor if you check your millatary history you will
find using such tactics as punishing the civilan population in such a manner who may or may not "supported" the acts of the fighters just creates a more bitter atmosphere and creates even more people who take up arms to fight down the road who would have not do so if not treated in such a manner. i will give you some examples. The US created or caused more people to join the Viet Cong by it policies towards the civilan population in rural areas, civilians who before had no intrest in the war. That 16 year old kid held in one of thoes camps might come back some day as a sniper filled with rage. Here is another example Afganastan. Remember that glorious Russian war. It all about hearts and minds.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO THE ONLINE COALITION
public answer to URN

UltraRussianNationalist president,
Thanks for suggesting me to hold the economy portfolio.
As minister of economy, and member of the oposition, I will make a balance with the Ultra Russian Leninist (URL) party.

My goal is to conciliate social justice and market reality. I will reject western loans and IMF rules and US influence in order to keep Russia free and proud and independant.
I will fight against white collar criminality and fraud.
I will propose a law to help small business providing employment.
I will also ask the Switzerland to open Yelstsin's bank accounts and rapatriate the money in order to finance the payement of all unpaid salaries for 5 years.

But, I will struggle as well against the return of the soviet rule because it' not a economic solution.

I hope that despite this last point, the URL will not block my application for the ministery of finance and economy.

Gonzo the big stick will work just fine and if they act up again more of the same and if they keep it up eventually there will be none left.Sooner or later they will learn not to mess with us.Their behaviour should be punished not rewarded.I would leave Grozny the way it is as a reminder.I have not one iota of compassion for the majority of them.Notice I said majority not all of them.People on the ground there can determine who is who.

Prediction: The Russians have allready said they are pulling out two divisions. Look for the Russian Generals to claim "Victory" right before the election. There will be only one catch the Chechens will still be fighting. Its a quagmire. Mission creep situation.

URN,
I will be much obliged to fulfill this flattering appointment into the Coalition. My collaboration with Dimitri will manifest the FSB into an effective and efficient vehicle for the Coalition. I appreciate the nomination and await further instruction on matters which are of utmost concern. In saying this, I must also say farewell for the evening. I must kick some German ass as I lead my troops against the Wehrmacht in East Front II (a war/strategy video game).

" I don't recall Russians saying war was based on elections" Well if you are refering to Yetzin or Putnin saying that of course not. "western propaganda". Well this idea stems from polling data that shows thw war is popular with the Russian people and if it went bad or victory is not claimed before the elections it becomes a political issue (if not allready). Personally I am not on the Chechens side but it think this will end up lke Chechen war part 1 with Chechens still in the field ready to fight while Russians leave claiming victory.

You non-russians should mind your own business and let russia take care fo its own business, the only reason the other countries care about chechnya is because the want russia to collapse completely. Well too bad.

Igor,

Your story about the prison however pleasing to you only shows how ill prepared and untrained the common Russian conscript is. If in fact the Russian military is trying to find the militants, why do such gruesome conditions exist? This story is just another example of how far behind the Russian military is compared to its Western counterparts and the 21st century.

Why it continues to act in such a manner and why people like Igor relish in the barbarity of it should be a question for all to ponder.

Militants should be punished but to inflict such treatment on an entire population is beyond all comprehension.

It is easy to comprehend: Population supports militants = Pupulation deserves the punishment. Period.
BTW, I agree with Dima's post: "..they want russia to collapse..". The evidence is in behaviour.
